Prof. Dick Strugnell leads a research group in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne. The group includes independent fellow, post-docs, postgraduate students and Honours students in infection and immunity. Professor Strugnell is a Professor of Microbiology at The University of Melbourne, appointed in November 2001 after previous positions at Melbourne, Wellcome Biotech (UK), University of Birmingham and Monash University.
The Strugnell lab has expertise in immunity in murine models, in basic molecular microbiology and in in vitro studies of immune responses, both innate and acquired. Current research projects focus on Salmonella as a model for an intracellular invasive pathogen, and Klebsiella pneumoniae as an encapsulated extraceullar organism.
